Dominicus Transport was established on 13 April 1971 by Vic and Griet Dominicus.
We started off working for the Crushers, transporting sand and stone. In 1974 we bought our second truck and soon the first Yacht was transported. During 1974 to 1995 the yachting business was booming. We took up yacht transport because it was a very specialized type of business. We moved approximately two yachts per month and during those years we didn’t have any claims against the Company.
In 1975 we started working for Krugersdorp Engineering with whom we had a very good relationship for many years, until the company was taken over by GEA in 1986 who handled their own transport.
In January 1980 we bought our third truck. In 1984 one truck was hi-jacked but never found again. In 1985 we started working for C.I. Parkhomes for whom we had moved parkhomes over South Africa and North Africa as far as Kolwezi in the D.R.C., Mwanza in Tanzania and Lilongwe in Malawi. Over and above CI Parkhomes, we moved parkhomes for Murray & Roberts and Grinaker Construction & Civils.
Since 1997 we started a contract transporting used oil in our client’s tankers.
Over and above the yachts, parkhomes and oil tankers there is also the Transport of manufactured goods, such as Steel and Fibre Glass Tanks on low beds and extendable trailers. Reinforcing and Structural steel on semi and interlink trailers. Concrete bridge beams and Overhead cranes on stearable dolly and extendable trailers. Everything but the cartage of furniture.
Since 1990 we became a real family business when our children joined the business and are quite active in the office and daily operations with us.
After twenty one years of operating from our small holding, we are fortunately still going strong.
